car is totaled

Getting to work after your car is totaled in an accident can be challenging. Depending on how far from home you work, you may end up paying more to commute than you paid for gas. That is, of course, if you have a reliable form of transportation to begin with.

If you opted for rental reimbursement coverage as an add-on to your insurance, you may be able to avail of this coverage for a short time. However, this type of coverage is typically only used when a vehicle in undergoing repairs and it has a monetary limit. In cases where the car is totaled, rental reimbursement insurance is a short-term solution to a long-term problem.

Walking and Cycling

Of course, if you live relatively close to your work place, you can always walk or cycle. It may mean leaving a little earlier for work, but your lungs and muscles will thank you for the exercise. However, if you have suffered injuries as a result of the accident in which your car was totaled, walking or cycling may not be an option. There are a number of alternative means of travel which, if approached in the right way, won’t play too much havoc with your daily commute to work.

Carpooling is a much more practical means of getting to work when your car is totaled, in most cases. If you know a colleague who lives nearby, great! If not, you could offer to pay a bit extra towards gas for the inconvenience. Both parties benefit, and you won’t have to worry about dealing with public transport.

There are even groups that have been set up to facilitate carpooling in the Tulsa area. “Car Pool World” is one such group, with a website where passengers can propose carpooling arrangements with other Tulsa residents. It should be noted, however, that you should only consider carpooling with strangers with the understanding that there are potential risks.

Buses and Trains

As a driver, you can be forgiven for not being familiar with how public transport works. But don’t worry, your local bus service already has it all figured out for you. The type of tickets that you buy should reflect your typical work schedule. For instance, if you are working five days a week and taking two separate buses to and from work, it doesn’t make sense to buy single-journey tickets.

Research the various ticket prices for your route to work, and compare each option to determine which ticket – or combination of tickets – will save you the most money. You should also aim to take a bus that will get you to work early. Even bus drivers have sick days, so do not rely on your last-minute bus being on time every time.

As you have probably guessed by this stage, train fares are also designed to appeal to the travel habits of commuters. With both modes of transport, it is important to stay abreast of any deals and discounts available. A great place to check for deals is on the company website.
